Frontend vs Backend Development

Web development is generally divided into two main areas: Frontend Development and Backend Development.

Frontend Development

Frontend development is the part of a website that users can see and interact with directly.

Main frontend technologies include:

  • HTML – Creates the structure of a web page.
  • CSS – Controls the design, colors, layout, and appearance.
  • JavaScript – Adds interaction and dynamic functionality.
  • Bootstrap – Helps developers create responsive websites faster.

Backend Development

Backend development works behind the scenes. It handles application logic, databases, authentication, and communication with the server.

In this course, we will mainly use:

  • PHP – For server-side programming.
  • MySQL – For storing and managing data.

Simple Example

Consider a student login system:

The login form that the student sees is part of the frontend. When the student enters an email and password, the backend processes that information and checks the database.

Full-Stack Development

A developer who can work with both frontend and backend technologies is commonly called a Full-Stack Developer.

By the end of this course, you will have worked with both frontend and backend technologies.
